Ah, the lure of sedition… The curiosity to see how a “coup” is prepared. The adrenalin of watching the character take action. The mixed desire to see if he’ll get caught or not. The thieves are clever (in the series), daring, inventive, and therefore devilishly attractive.
My favourites
- Peaky blinders / Netflix / Birmingham, 1920. A ruthless gypsy family takes control of all the city’s trafficking
- Money heist (la casa de papel) / Netflix / A genius recruits a team of specialist in order to pull off the heist of the century
These are also very good
- Boy swallows universe / Netflix / Brisbane, in the 70’s. Two brothers struggle to build their life in a poor suburb
- Lupin / Netflix / Assane Diop is a fan of Arsene Lupin. He will copy his hero’s methods to avenge an injustice
- The catch / Disney+ / A woman running a private detective agency discovers that her fiancé has conned her
- The unusual suspects / Netflix / A successful influencer, her maid, her neigbours improvise a bold heist as a revenge
- Wanted / Netflix / Two women waiting at a bus stop witness a murder. They become suspects and run
Less good for me, but you may disagree and like it :
Berlin / Netflix / Money heist’s prequel, much less convincing, an average series. But still, if you like heists, France or romances…
