Debbie and Judith have been best friends for 25 years. Debbie is the wife of a congressman, David, and she’s the driving force behind his rising career. Judith is—officially—a forensic accountant. Except that, actually, no—not really. She’s an assassin who takes out high-profile criminals designated by the organization that employs her. Judith is extremely talented, including when it comes to compartmentalizing her life.
Except that one day, everything goes wrong. Her target attends a gala with David. Not only does Judith lose her target, but her best friend’s husband gets shot. The situation is about to spiral out of control, and the two friends will have to flee across Europe in search of 24 million pounds, pursued by the Albanian mafia, the police, a ruthless assassin, and even Judith’s boss.
A spy series that does justice to the genre by breaking some of its clichés
Judith is every bit as good as James Bond. Whether it’s combat, handling weapons, technology, or sports, she excels at everything. And yet, she is a WoacA! A woman of a certain age… There’s no denying it: casting two heroines in their late forties is a bold choice for an action series. And it works. All the hallmarks are there: nonstop action, gadgets, secret organizations, luxurious settings, and, of course, plenty of very British humor. Who cares how old the heroins are!
The characters face what all WoacAs around the world know: others see their experiences as a burden rather than a treasure trove of skills. Supporting each other through tough times, the two friends aren’t going to let anyone push them around. In fact, their paths cross. While Judith, the invincible one, begins to reveal her vulnerabilities, Debbie, the unassuming one, takes control of her destiny with a strength no one would have suspected she possessed.
The ending is a lovely nod to Thelma & Louise, but with a positive twist.
I didn’t know what to expect from this original series. I laughed, I relaxed, and I really enjoyed it. Go check it out!
