Below are the NEW series released in 2024 (not new seasons), on Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Netflix. Those are series I have seen and liked ! I may have seen others, for example “Expats” on Amazon or “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” on Disney+, but not found it interesting enough to write a post about it.
Amazon Prime Video
- Batman caped crusader : a faithful but still renewed adaptation, with a psychological approach that adds depth
- Merci internet : Squeezie is THE French star of youtube (25% of the nation if following him). His success and evolution tell a lot about social media et society
- My lady Jane : in a dystopic England, Jane Grey becomes Queen of a nation divided between “normal” humans and metamorphic ones. Fresh and dynamic
- Those about to die Rome, 79 AD. The people are hungry, the emperor give them gladiators and horse races. Great action and shows, faithful to History.
Disney +
- Renegade Nell : Dystopic, fantastic / England, 18th century. Helped by a pixie, a young woman fights for justice. Fresh and dynamic too !
- Shardlake : Lord Cromwell sends a disabled man to lead a double investigation in a rich catholic monastery. Dark and gripping story
- Shogun : Japan, XVIIth century. In a country divided by feuds between clans, foreign nations try to gain influence. Sometimes a bit long, but beautiful
- STAR WARS The Acolyte : During the High Republic, 100 years before the battle of Yavin, peace reigns thanks to the Jedi’s order. But several masters are murdered. May the order and the Republic be more fragile than it seems ?
Netflix
- A good girl’s guide to murder : a student in high-school decides to reopen the painful case of another student’s disappearance
- Alexander : a beautiful docu-series focused on the period of the first part of the conquests (Persia and Egypt).
- Bodkin : in a picturesque village in Ireland, foreign journalists will reaveal well-seated secrets, and unleash chaos. Both dramatic and funny, good characters
- Boy swallows universe : Brisbane, in the 70’s. Two brothers struggle to build their life in a poor suburb. Dark but beautiful, great casting
- The last airbender : 4 nations, 4 elemental powers. A boy gets the power and responsibility to maintain balance. Fresh and naive in a good way
