AJ is starting a new job at an investment bank in New York. She’s moving in with her only friend, Abby, who works as an assistant to a fashion designer. Across the hall, three young men share an apartment: Davis, who works at the same bank as AJ; Kel, who is trying to pursue his passion for acting; and Josh, a spoiled rich kid with a good heart who dreams of becoming a journalist.

All five of them will face some trial and error as they enter the workforce. Should they try to pursue their dreams or work just to make a living? What compromises should they make to get along with their coworkers? How far should they go to obey or please their superiors?

And above all, how can you balance starting your career with your love life?

A cute series, but one that still lacks an identity

Let’s face it—it took some guts to venture into the realm of the sacred icon: Friends! Two girls instead of three, but the same type of apartment building near Central Park, and the same topic of young people in their twenties who are roommates and are discovering adult life. The dialogue isn’t as funny (though I don’t miss the canned laughter!). The characters are more “normal,” too; their little quirks are far too tame. But anyway, fair enough—it would have been a shame if not a single other series had ventured into that territory.

Of course, these five love each other without saying so; they get caught up in one romantic misunderstanding after another, argue, and help each other out.

It’s cute and fun to watch. Still, I wish the characters, situations, and dialogue were a bit more original. But I’d be happy to watch Season 2 to see if it gets more daring.
