Samantha has just inherited a country manor. Not quite sure what to do with it, she sets off with her husband Jay to visit it. But she takes a nasty fall down the huge staircase, and spends two weeks in a coma. When she returns, she discovers that the mansion is haunted! She can now see and speak with the seven ghosts in forced residence : Thor the viking, Sasappis the native american, Isaac the military man, Hetty (her ancestor), Alberta the jazz singer, Flower the hippie, Pete the scout and Trevor the stockbroker. They all died there, for some reason got stuck in this purgatory, ans cannot wander any further than the garden.

Against all odds, Sam becomes attached to the dilapidated house and its ghosts. Now, on top of having to pull out all the stops to turn the mansion into a B&B, Jay will have to cohabit with tenants he can’t even see! But once they get past the surprise and the many inconveniences, the young couple will discover that the situation also holds some pleasant surprises.

Spicy humor and endearing characters

Adapted from an original British series, Ghosts is a feel-good, funny, cute series whose main asset is a cast of original, endearing characters. The dialogue is well-written and punchy. The humor is generally good-natured, sometimes a little macabre. I was personally hurt by the lack of respect for animals, but apart from this, I laughed a lot -and I don’t do so easily.

Each episode features one of the ghosts, and they’re all absolutely adorable. The young couple is inevitably put to the test by this unprecedented situation, and the fact that Jay is excluded from the group. But Jay and Sam, like their roommates, are good-natured and will make the best of a bad situation. This will lead to some great friendships, and a whole host of hilarious situations!

My only regret is that the episodes are a little short. I’d like to spend more time with these great characters. And also that Netflix only released the first season in 2025. Let’s hope the others follow soon.
