Canada is a great country in every respect. It would have much to teach us, were it not for the shadow cast by its powerful and imperialist neighbor. As a French person, Canada seems to me to offer an excellent compromise between American and French cultures, taking the best of both. American freedom and entrepreneurship, French solidarity and sense of community. But maybe I’m completely wrong 😉
I have dreamed of going to live there, and I still hope to at least take a long trip there. I dream of lakes, vast forests, lush green landscapes, and snow, too. Obviously, a remote location in winter is much less appealing. But still. I would like to visit Quebec, the lakes, then cross over to Vancouver and stop along the way. And why not push on to the far north?
I enjoyed each one of the series below, located on the map below. Have fun too !
- Departure (seasons 2 & 3) / Netflix / A team investigates transport accidents. Hundreds of lives lost, how and why ?
- Frontier / Netflix / Hudson Bay, 1800. The lucrative trade of furs ignites a war between British interests and local ones
- North of North / Netflix / In an Arctic small town, a young Inuk mother decides to take control of his life.
- The sticky / Amazon / An unlikely trio improvise an unimaginable heist: to steal the maple syrup stock.
- Washington Black / Disney+ / A slave boy escapes from Barbados with his scientist mentor. 20 years later in Canada, his past resurfaces
And also, partly related to Canada :
- The Indian detective / Netflix / A constable in the Canadian Police flies to India, his family’s country, and becomes a true detective there
- Blown away / Netflix / Glassblowers compete to create magically beautiful and skillfully crafted objects
