Hannah, a little-known screenwriter, presents Hulu producers with an unlikely project: she wants to shoot a reboot of a sitcom that came out twenty years ago, with the same cast. Although a little surprised, the production team runs a statistical simulation, and the thing seems to have a future. Against all odds, Hannah’s project gets the green light. The original cast members, whose careers haven’t really taken off since, are back in action, and so are their respective egos.
But to make sure everything goes smoothly, the producers ask Hannah to collaborate with the original series’ writer. As it turns out, Hannah neglected to tell them it was her father, whom she fully intends to avenge. But other than that, what could possibly go wrong?
A little nugget about Hollywood’s backstage
I loved Reboot! It’s funny, it’s cute, it’s informative about show business. The characters are all endearing. Actors, writers, producers, the rest of the world (staff, families)… Each of them has an angle that makes them interesting. The odd little family they form makes you want to be there and be part of their tribe. I was really bummed that the series was stopped after one season. There were still so many tasty stories to tell, with these great characters.
If you want a no-frills, home-style tour of the film studios – and a few laughs along the way – don’t miss this gem of a series.
