Intrigue and twists are the normal way of life for these characters. While espionage is a major genre in cinema, series are less adventurous.
I particularly recommend Secret City, an excellent two-season Australian series, and Bodyguard, so British.
- Black doves / Netflix / A spy in London sees her family’s life threatened after the death of the Chinese ambassador
- Bodyguard / Netflix / A gripping story of a protection officer who faces terrorists, organized crime and… politicians !
- Citadel / Amazon / Citadel, an independant agency founded to ensure peace, is destroyed by its rival. But two top-spies survive.
- Citadel Diana / Amazon / Citadel’s spin-off, based on the Italian part of Manticore. Diana is a double agent recruited by both secret organizations.
- Citadel, Honey Bunny : a prequel, about Nadia’s parents, two agents in India, and her childhood.
- The diplomat / Netflix / Amidst a major international crisis, a newly appointed US ambassador takes up her post in London
- En place / Netflix / A suburban animator becomes a presidential candidate. A funny reflection on politics and democracy
- The Night Agent / Netflix / Peter, an FBI agent, and Rose, whose family were secret agents, uncover a vast conspiracy and must fight for their country
- Paradise / Disney+ / The President has been murdered. Here, in a small city designed for ultra-rich, protected even from the end of the world…
- Secret city / Netflix / In Canberra, a journalist investigates a murder with an impact on international relations
- Pine Gap / Netflix / The joint facility (USA/Australia) near Alice Spring fails to detect a missile launch in the area
- Zero Day / Netflix / After an inimaginable attack, former President Muller leads a fully empowered commission. But is he up to the task?
