Stéphane Blé is a youth activity leader in a poor suburb of Paris. He’s a gentle dreamer who knows how to keep the fragile flame of hope alive in disillusioned young people. In their neighborhoods, it’s often either drugs or unemployment that await them, or both. But when the town’s mayor, a candidate in the French presidential election, comes to make himself look good on camera, it’s all too much. Stéphane, well aware of the man’s hypocrisy, puts him firmly in his place. The sequence goes viral on social networks. Events get out of hand, and Stéphane finds himself a presidential candidate, almost without having wanted to be. But everyone around him is encouraging him: if he can awaken the hope of the young people in his neighborhood, can’t he do the same for the French people, who need it so badly?
Let’s dream a little…
Whatever your country, have you ever dreamed of seeing the old guard of politicians make way for new, sincere people driven by the desire to do the right thing?
When an outsider presents himself, all his opponents, career politicians, will gang up against him. Even if he came to power through a combination of extraordinary events, what could he do? The election is based on the popular vote, more or less manipulated. But once in place, implementing bold measures will prove even more difficult. En place is a comedy that doesn’t pretend to be realistic. It’s cute, it’s fresh, it’s funny, supported by excellent actors, and it makes you think. How important is the popular vote in a democracy?
