Joanne and Morgan, two single sisters, host a podcast about their relationships, their sexuality, in short, about their lives as thirty-somethings. Their successful show has been spotted by a major producer and is about to change dimension. But at a party, Joanne meets Noah, a rabbi. She, who is used to dead-end relationships, falls in love, against all odds. Noah, who has just left his Jewish girlfriend, alienating his entire family, falls for this spontaneous, unfiltered young woman who is nothing like the women around him. But their loved ones don’t see it that way! Between their shenanigans and their own doubts, the two lovebirds will have to question many things if they are to give their new love a chance.
When a Rabbi meets a shiksa…
This series is adorable, but above all for romance lovers. I had been told I would love it even if I am not a fan of romance. Well, it’s cute and easy to watch, but it’s not as great as I’ve read in some reviews. The theme of impossible love, even today, seen from the rabbi/atheist angle, is an interesting approach. Overall, the cast is very good. I really like Kristen Bell, and it’s nice to see “Janet” from the good place. The characters are interesting, especially the Jewish families. But the dialogue isn’t exactly original (fuck, shit, ok, all right, yeah; sometimes all in the same line). And although existential questions are addressed, the plot lacks depth. But I did like the originality of the love triangle between Sasha, Esther and Morgan. Their story spices up a fairly classic scenario.
Not an exceptional series, but season 2 gets a little better.
