After a breakup, Jess needs a new apartment. On her schoolteacher’s salary, she can only afford to share. That’s how she ends up in the loft shared by three young men, childhood friends. Jess isn’t quite the roommate they were expecting, but Nick instantly falls for her and forces his friends to agree. Crazy, ingenuous, naive and completely disorganized, the young woman is going to turn the lives of the three bachelors upside down. And that’s just what they needed! What’s more, her best friend, Cece, is a gorgeous model. Nick, the bartender, Schmidt, the ladies’man (or so he wishes), and Winston, former basketball player, cat lover and big fan of pranks, will have to change their bachelor habits to integrate these two female specimens into their group.

A cute sitcom that’s good for morale

Three men and two women in their early thirties. As you might imagine, the series focuses on romantic relationships. Couples form and deform (sometimes re-form), within the group and with other characters. Some are looking for true love, others for sex. It’s quite possible that these young adults aren’t clear about what they’re really looking for. Life’s setbacks will gradually bring them greater clarity. Together, they’ll experience tragedy and joy, make mistakes, make mistakes again, and learn to chart their own course without losing their friends.

The strength of the series lies in its endearing characters, the main group and the many others around. The characters aren’t quite cracked enough for my taste, but everyone will easily identify with one of them and have their own favorite. Similarly, dialogues and situations remain a little too classic. But as we follow these adult apprentices, we’re reassured to see that every time, everything works out in the end. Whether you’re feeling a little down or just need to relax, New Girl will boost your spirits.
