How to get to HEAVEN from BELFAST

Netflix

Saoirse, Robyn and Dara grew up in Belfast and have been friends since childhood. Life has taken them in different directions, but they have stayed in touch. They are informed that Greta, the last member of their quartet, has died. The trio had distanced themselves from Greta, wanting to forget a heavy secret. Despite this, they are determined to visit the small village where Greta lived, to pay their last respects.

But nothing goes as planned. Far from welcoming them with open arms, Greta’s family is reluctant to let them near the coffin. And for good reason! Saoirse inadvertently discovers that the body is not that of their friend… From then on, between accidents and a chase with a relentless killer, the trio will have to use their wits and combine their unlikely talents to uncover the truth and finally bury a painful past.

Psychedelic investigation

The investigation itself sometimes drags on and on a bit. But that’s clearly not the priority of this unique series. The characters are (almost) all zany, the situations burlesque, even grotesque. The pop rock soundtrack mixes chart hits with independant sounds. And the flashbacks bring to life a childhood filled with both drama and carefree moments in the 1990s. Derry Girls (visually present in one scene) is not far away.

It is worth noting that, unusually, women are in charge here, including of a dangerous organization. Each with a strong character, they intend to navigate the constraints of life to steer their ship wherever they want. The casting is spot on, from the irresistible trio to the crazy killers, not forgetting the beautiful Greta and her disturbing mother. But the men also manage to come out on top, starting with a handsome police officer who will turn many heads.

A crazy and eccentric series that transforms drama into comedy and offers a wonderful escape between Ireland, London, and Portugal.
