Late 2010s. With the rise of streaming platforms, DVD rental stores are closing one after the other. The last to represent the late Blockbuster franchise, Timmy isn’t giving up. Feeling responsible for his employees, who have become his family, the shy manager will become bolder and grasps the nettle! He decides to organize a festive event to attract new members. Things don’t go according to plan, but in fact, the video of the event goes viral, and all things considered, the latest Blockbuster will be able to stay open a little longer…

There can only be one

Based on the true story of the last real Blockbuster store in Oregon, and a beautiful tribute to cinema, this cute and funny series is first and foremost a comedy, with endearing characters, funny dialogues and comical situations. Like the real store, the one in the series will use every means to attract attention and enhance its cine heritage to stay afloat. The manager understands that there’s no substitute for the human touch, and that even in the 21st century, people still appreciate advice before choosing a film.

Netflix’s cynicism (and that of its competitors) needs no further demonstration. It’s with cruel irony that the platform broadcasts this excellent series on the history of businesses that have closed because of it. But without granting it a season 2, unfortunately.

1 season, 10 episodes (25 mn), 2022, on Netflix

WITH : Randall Park (seen in The Residence) as Timmy Yoon, Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn 99) as Eliza Walker, Olga Merediz as Connie Serrano, Tyler Alvarez (Never have I ever) as Carlos Herrera, Madeleine Arthur as Hannah Hadman, Kamaia Fairburn as Kayla Scott, J. B. Smoove as Percy Scott, Leonard Robinson as Aaron Walker.
