Woodmere is a quiet countryside town. So, when Angela Benton, the local GP, is stabbed to death in front of several witnesses, the schock is huge. Soon, the police realize that the choice of the victim was not random. Suspicions turn to a young man with psychiatric problems. A few days later, his body is found below a bridge. But the suicide hypothesis is a little too convenient. DS Nina Suresh, emotional and with a strong character, DC Alec Wayfield, her patient colleague, and DC Bobby Day, looking for meaning in life, will take up this case with determination. Soon, they receive information from an anonymous detective, who invites them to take a closer look at Angela’s past. The investigation takes them to Germany, where a powerful pharmaceutical company sells antidepressants.
When financial stakes take precedence over human life
Woodmere, Stuttgart, two atmospheres, two polices working with their own methods. One goal : find the explanation behind several suspicious deaths. The detectives soon come up against a wall of silence, realizing that their adversary is more powerful than they imagined. The main plot is interesting. But the main strength of the series is the balance between a dozen well-described characters, all of equal importance. They all (almost) have a touch of madness, more or less assumed, which makes them endearing. I’m not a romantic, but I loved the touching love story between Bobby and Lucy.
A classic, well-constructed British series to enjoy with a cup of tea.
