Kyle Turner, an ISB (Investigative Services Branch) agent, works in the superb surroundings of Yosemite Park. Although he loves and respects the wilderness, he is unable to mourn the loss of his son, who died in the park years ago. Nature isn’t the only place where dangers abound. In this vastness, where it’s easy to disappear, men commit crimes, counting on the impunity of anonymity. The murder of Kyle’s son has never been solved.
Six years later, the body of a young woman is found beneath a cliff. But who is she? Was it really suicide? Aided by a newly-arrived ranger, a young mother on the run from her own demons, Kyle will move heaven and earth to give the young victim the justice she deserves.
Nature is wild, but man is cruel
The splendid setting of Yosemite National Park is obviously a major asset to the series. But the investigation and suspense are not neglected. As we delve into the victim’s past, buried secrets resurface. The park is a small, enclosed world. Many people cherish the tranquility. But when it comes down to it, very little can be kept secret if you know where to look.
In this nature reserve away from civilization, you’ll come across bears and coyotes. But we also come across all kinds of outsiders, some harmless, others less so. Tourists, hippies, park staff, police – no one is who they seem. Occupying this land for 4,000 years, the Indians watch the hustle and bustle with resignation. The series has the merit of showing indigenuous Indian characters without clichés, which is unfortunately all too rare.
Untamed won’t make you love humanity, but it does offer a gripping investigation in an exceptional setting.
