Travelers

Netflix

The 21st century played a pivotal role: global warming, overpopulation, epidemics, armed conflicts… Humanity went adrift and several centuries later, only a few small groups survive under ice-covered domes. Scientific and technological progress continued, despite everything. It became possible to transfer consciousness by changing bodies.

A crazy program has been launched in a desperate attempt to correct the mistakes of the past: specially trained travelers are transferred into 21st-century people who are about to die. They replace them and must carry out missions, governed by strict protocols, in an attempt to rectify the future. And since no human is capable of making the necessary decisions, the program is run by an AI, the “director.”

Traveler 3468, arrived in the body of an FBI agent, Mc Laren, leads one of the teams sent. They manage to complete a crucial mission, but it won’t be enough, and unforeseen events will pile up. Will determination and technology be enough to change the fate of humanity?

A little escapism and science fiction in the heart of our times

The series does not neglect futuristic settings or gadgets. But it is in the storyline that we find science fiction above all else. The apocalyptic future is never shown, it is described and suggested. And that is enough to transport us and make us want to see the travelers succeed in saving our future.

The action is well paced, and there are enough interesting characters to make it easy to identify with them. While the series doesn’t have the epic scope of Stargate, it’s enjoyable to watch for a relaxing moment of action and science fiction.

Protocol 1 : the mission comes first / Protocol 2 : Leave the future in the past / Protocol 3 : don’t take a life, don’t save a life / Protocol 4 : do not reproduce / Protocol 5 : In the absence of direction, maintain your host’s life / Protocol 6 : Do not communicate with other known travelers outside of your team

3 seasons, 34 episodes (45 mn), 2016-2018, on Showcase and Netflix
