Greer and Tag Winbury are the perfect couple. They’re very wealthy, have been married for 29 years and have three beautiful sons. The eldest, Tom, is married and his wife is pregnant. The youngest, Will, is approaching 18. The second, Benji, has met Amelia, the woman of his dreams. Greer, a best-selling author, is about to launch her latest novel. She decides to show off her family’s happiness by organizing a superb wedding at her villa for Benji and Amelia. But there’s a tiny hitch in the planning. On the morning of the wedding, Amelia’s best friend Merritt is found drowned on the beach. And the police have their doubts about the naturalness of the death. Soon, tongues are wagging between those with a guilty conscience and those only too happy to let go of their jealousy or frustration. The pretty facade of a perfect family cracks wide open, revealing secrets that even wealth can’t stifle.

The plot doesn’t shine for its realism, and there are many weaknesses in the script. But the suspense is gripping, and the progression of the story addictive. And therein lies the main attraction of this series. With each episode, the veil is lifted a little more, a new twist seems to point to another suspect, until the one we didn’t suspect (at least I didn’t) is revealed.

The actors are not all good, and they have to deal with characters that are all less than stellar. But you can’t help but feel a slightly sadistic pleasure when guests and family members are cornered one after the other (“had it coming!”). As we all know, wealth doesn’t buy happiness, but that doesn’t matter: tasting luxury via the screen, then watching the rich fall apart, it is quite enjoyable
