The lost station girls

Les disparues de la gare
police team
Favicon Disney

Perpignan, South of France (near the border with Spain), 1998. The body of a young girl is found naked and horribly mutilated. The police are deploying all their resources to track down the killer. But he has left no clues. Judging by the precision of the wounds inflicted, he could be a doctor. As the weeks and then months passed, the team of detectives kept at it, but little by little, doubt began to creep in. Especially since, a few years later, another young woman was killed in the same area.

16 years of investigations to catch a maniac. A terrible true story.

A missing girl in 1995, then three others, dead, from 1998 to 2004. Beyond the horrific facts, the series focuses on the psychological impact on the police officers. For Captain Vidal, the team leader, his obsession with finding the murderer will jeopardize his family life. For Flore Robin, whose first assignment came straight after graduating from officer training school, the shock of reality on the ground was harsh. Each member will experience the investigation in their own way, but for all of them, the cost will be high.
It must be said that in the late 1990s, technology was less capable of performing miracles. In this type of investigation, either the police get lucky, or the killer ends up making a mistake. After 16 years, both will finally happen. For three families, answers will be provided.

I regret that the final episode does not shed light on the killer’s motive or how the victims were killed. But the series sheds a sometimes depressing but useful light on how investigations are conducted, even today.
