Siaja, 26 years old, had the traditional life of an Inuk woman. After high school, she married a handsome guy who is very popular in her small town of Ice Cove. They had a girl, Bun, now 7 years old. But Siaja is bored. She doesn’t see herself as a housewife and wants to work and accomplish things on her own. Despite the incomprehension of those around her, she lands a small job with the city administrator, Helen. Her boss, colleagues, and family are not going to make things easy for her, and Siaja keeps making mistakes. But she perseveres. Determined and resourceful, she manages to prove her worth.

Besides, the town welcomes two scientists tasked with scouting a site for a future observation station. One of them is a young man who is much more charming than Siaja’s narcissistic husband. As for the other, he turns out to be her father, whom she had never known. For the young woman, it’s now or never to change her life!

Cute, clever, and refreshing!

Finally, an unpretentious series that relaxes and lifts the spirits, while allowing us to discover another culture and an enriching approach to life. The Inuks live in a hostile natural environment. They are content with little and have learned to cherish small pleasures. When you can’t bask in the sun, human warmth and solidarity play a central role in keeping the spirits of this small community high. Most people live a quiet life without asking too many questions. And now a young woman wants a fulfilling life that allows her to do something useful? What a notion!

It’s funny and very cute. The characters are all interesting, including the discreet but observant elders. Despite the omnipresent snow and freezing cold, the scenery makes you want to visit this little corner of the world. If I ever get to take the big trip around Canada that I’ve been dreaming of, I’d love to visit this Arctic region.
