Miskina, poor thing

Miskina poster season 1
Miskina the sisters
Miskina Nassim and Fara

Fara is a loser by everyone’s opinion, including her own. 30-ish, still living in a suburb of Paris with Mum, she has no boyfriend, no job, no perspective whatsoever. She is desperately in love with her childhood’s friend, Nassim, but unable to tell him. She is unable to do anything, actually. Her dad left a long time ago, she became fat, and all her dreams and her energy left with him. But today is the day of her sister’s marriage ! So, of course, it’s a family crisis and drama. The beautiful, slim, active Safia (her opposite) is marrying a “gwer”, a non-muslim. Fara and Safia’s family are not very religious, but still, they come from Algeria, a white guy is a weird addition. Very upset, Rania, the grandmother, refuses to attend the wedding. At her wits’ end, the bride demands that her sister solve the problem. Fara will do so, in her own way, and provoke an even more complex family crisis.

Family… We love them, but sometimes we cannot remember why ?

Melha Bedia didn’t put herself forward by playing the main character. Fara is passive, looking at life with an empty look and an open mouth. When she actually does something, it is usually a mistake. Ok, this kind of person exists in real life, but in every scene of a show, it’s rather boring. Fortunately, all the other characters are colorful. Starting with Rania, the grumpy matriarch, a headstrong woman who hides her game well. The male characters are not to be outdone, with Maxime the candid, Nassim the resourceful, and even an absent father who’s less of a bastard than his daughter thinks. Within the large Alaoui family, funny and sometimes dramatic situations lead to one crisis after another. Eventually, it will become obvious that everyone is lying. But when love is there, all can be forgiven.
