London. Kip Glasbie is assigned a first case after DI promotion. A young pizza delivery boy was gunned down. Another delivery driver should have gone to this address, but deliveries were changed at the last minute. Which of the two young men was the intended victim? One thing is certain: the murder was carefully planned and executed by a professional killer. Why take so many precautions to shoot this illegal immigrant? As the country is about to pass repressive security laws, police are uncovering an immigrant smuggling operation that may well involve British citizens.

Between cynicism and compassion

The plot is well distributed over the four episodes of the miniseries. The suspense is sustained, the twists regular. The strength of the story lies in the attention paid to the characters’ daily lives, and the realism of what happens to them. There’s no Manichaeism here, just more or less fluctuating life paths. A soldier who refuses to doubt the meaning of her commitment, despite the mounting evidence. A priest who has to choose between his own happiness and the life of his parish. A disillusioned MP whose conscience and courage will awaken when the cup is full… and faced with ruthless smugglers, Inspector Kip Glasbie will have to take risks without ever giving up on compassion. A beautiful, strong, dense story with an impeccable cast.
