Ireland

I haven’t visited Ireland as often as I would have liked. From what I can tell, there’s one thing we have to acknowledge about the Irish: they have resilience in their blood! Resistance to British oppression, of course, and the ability to overcome painful divisions; but also resilience in the face of living conditions that have not always been easy. By adapting or emigrating, the Irish have grown stronger. They are proud of their culture and traditions, yet they are also able to integrate and embrace the future.

As someone who is drawn to this culture, I enjoy watching Irish TV series. They are all very good! The locations are pinned on the map below.

  • Bodkin / Netflix / In a picturesque village in Ireland, foreign journalists will reaveal well-seated secrets, and unleash chaos
  • Derry girls / Netflix / 1994. Five friends live their carefree teenage lives in an Ireland that is healing its wounds.
  • The Fall / BBC2 / Belfast, 2012. A chilling confrontation between the police team and an elusive serial killer [Technically, the series takes place in UK, but Northern Ireland is still Ireland]
  • House of Guiness / Dublin, 1868. The Guiness’s founder died. He leaves his business to his two sons, who are forced to join forces to face their adversaries.
  • How to get to Heaven from Belfast / Netflix / Three young women, bound by a childhood secret, embark on a crazy investigation to find a friend.
