Made in heaven

Made in heaven season 2 poster
an Indian wedding

They say marriages are made in heaven“. But here and now, in Delhi, it’s a little bit more complicated. Karan and Tara have been friends for a long time. Together, they created a wedding planning agency. They work for very rich families, which is not a problem thanks to Tara’s family-in-law, big businessmen dealing with steel and building economy. Tara herself is from a more modest family, but she has learned all the codes of the upper society.

Marriages are intense moments, rites of passage, for the bride and groom, but also for their respective families. If the spouses come from different backgrounds, tensions may arise. Karan, Tara and their team will do their best to listen to everybody, calm down, apease, mediate. Most of the time, everything will be forgotten on the big day and happiness will flow freely. And sometimes, when the union is used as a pretext for something other than love, cancelling the wedding will be the best solution.

An Indian approach to universal issues

The series is a grandiose show featuring luxurious weddings and the lives of very wealthy families. The images are beautiful and colorful. All that’s missing are the scents. But not all is luxury and fortune. The series also shows the much more modest lives of the team members. And it shows the dark side of some of the ultra-rich: drugs, abuse of power, racism and intolerance.

The great merit of “Made in heaven” is that it sheds light on serious issues, such as domestic violence, forced marriages, aggression towards homosexuality… Each episode focuses on an issue that goes beyond the Indian context. The series succeeds in being educational without being moralistic, naive or judgmental. A fairy tale for adults?
